Tuesday night, all over St. Paul, the precinct caucuses are scheduled. This is when neighbors get together to start the nominating process for the DFL party for City Council and School Board.
Marit needs your help. Sign-in begins at 6:30 pm, caucuses start at 7:00 pm, and delegate elections begin at 7:30 pm. Marit wants you to attend caucuses, bring a friend, and sign up to be delegates! Delegates will go on to the Ward 2 endorsing convention on February 22, 2015 to vote and make sure Marit gets the DFL nomination. (It’s at the Carpenter’s Union, 700 Olive St., Saint Paul. The start time is at noon. Make sure that it’s on your calendar, and Marit can count on your support!)
Ward 2 caucuses will be held at the three following locations:
- Precincts 1-7, A+ Arts Program at Monroe, 810 Palace Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55102
- Precincts 8-11, Healtheast’s Passport Program, Alliance Bank Building, 55 5th St. E., Suite 203, Saint Paul, MN 55101
- Precincts 12-15, Humboldt High School, 30 Baker Street East, Saint Paul, MN 55107
When you arrive at your meeting location, you will be directed to the correct room or area where your precinct is meeting. The “precinct” is the part of the neighborhood that votes at the same time and place that you do. Everyone in the room will be your neighbors. You can see a map find find your precinct here.
At 7:00 pm, a predetermined person will call the meeting to order. The first order of business will be to read some statements about who can participate as well as the DFL goals of inclusiveness. You will also elect a person to run the rest of the meeting (caucus chair) and possibly some people to assist in counting if there are elections with ballots to count. You will also pass some simple rules to govern the meeting. During this time, you may also have candidates for City Council or School Board stopping by to introduce themselves to your caucus and speak for a few minutes.
Once those preliminaries are done, there are two main things that will occur at this year’s DFL precinct caucuses:
- Resolutions will be passed and
- Delegates will be elected to the Ward 2 Convention
Any attendee can offer a resolution about any issue that affects the City of St. Paul and is dealt with by either the City government or the Saint Paul School Board.
At 7:30 pm, the election of delegates to the Ward 2 Convention will occur. This is when Marit needs you to volunteer! Please volunteer and then make sure the chair person has properly marked your name as a delegate.
After that, the chair will ask for volunteers to serve on convention committees. Please support any Marit supporters who are running for those spots. The committees will be meeting on Saturday, February 7th. If you are open on Saturday, think about volunteering to serve yourself. The convention committees plan the Ward 2 convention.
If you have any questions during the process, each precinct will have a captain from the Marit Brock campaign. It’s their job to support you through this process!
Please wear your Marit Brock button, and if you don’t have one, your precinct captain will have one for you! Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have further questions!
See you Tuesday night!! Thank you for all your support!!
